Does TUI fly include a cabin suitcase – or do you have to pay extra? This is exactly where the key question lies: the large trolley is only included with TUI fly in the Best and Premium fares. In our guide you'll find all the current TUI fly hand luggage rules 2026 – the dimensions and weights, the differences between the Base, Better, Best and Premium fares, plus the tricks that help you avoid paying extra at the gate.
TUI fly hand luggage 2026 – the rules at a glance
TUI fly is one of Germany's major leisure airlines. A clear rule applies to hand luggage: a small bag is free with every fare – the large trolley is only included with the Best and Premium fares. With Base and Better, you book it as a paid extra.
1. The small bag (free of charge)
The small piece of hand luggage is free with every TUI fly fare and must fit under the seat in front of you:
- Dimensions: 40 × 30 × 20 cm
- Weight: the exact limit is stated in your booking confirmation
- Storage: under the seat in front of you
- Ideal for this: underseater bags, small shoulder bags or compact backpacks
2. The large cabin trolley
You must book the classic cabin trolley separately with Base and Better, while it is included with Best and Premium:
- Dimensions: 55 × 40 × 20 cm (including wheels and handles)
- Weight: max. 10 kg, 1 piece
- Cost: cheaper online than at the airport (€50 per route there) – including Priority Boarding
- Ideal for this: cabin suitcases in 55 × 40 × 20 cm, cabin backpacks or travel bags in cabin-luggage format
Important: Unlike Lufthansa (from Economy Light) or Condor (from Economy Classic, already included in Light on short-haul city routes), the large trolley with TUI fly is only included from the Best fare upwards. If you travel only with the free 40 × 30 × 20 cm bag, you avoid the extra charge completely. If you need more space, booking online is cheaper than at the airport (€50 there).

Find the right TUI fly suitcase: With a precisely sized trolley in 55 × 40 × 20 cm, you're on the safe side – and avoid the expensive gate fee.
View cabin suitcases »Avoiding gate fees with TUI fly
TUI fly checks dimensions and weight at the gate. If your hand luggage doesn't fit within the permitted dimensions, or if you haven't booked the trolley in advance, the item will be transported in the hold for a fee – and this is considerably more expensive at the airport than online.
Money-saving tip: Decide honestly before booking whether the free 40 × 30 × 20 cm bag is enough. For a short trip, it often is. If you need the trolley, book it online rather than at the gate. And when choosing a suitcase, pay attention to the outer dimensions including wheels and handles.
Checked baggage & fees with TUI fly
- Base / Pure: no checked baggage included – can be added
- Better / Perfect: 1 piece up to 20 kg included
- Best / Premium: 1 piece up to 25 kg included
- Excess baggage: €17 per additional kilo at the airport (so 25 kg instead of a booked 20 kg means €85)
- Important: Booking online is always cheaper than at the airport – there, a 20 kg suitcase can easily cost around €120
Power banks and lithium batteries with TUI fly
- Hand luggage only – never in checked baggage
- A maximum of 2 power banks, each up to 100 Wh
- Do not charge on board and do not use to charge other devices, and do not place in the overhead bin
Our guide Power bank in hand luggage explains how to convert your power bank's capacity into watt-hours.
Liquids in TUI fly hand luggage
The EU-wide liquid rules apply: individual containers of a maximum of 100 ml, all together in a transparent 1-litre bag. More on this in our guide Liquids in hand luggage – you'll find the right flight bags in our shop.
5 money-saving tips for your TUI fly hand luggage
- Make the most of the small bag: 40 × 30 × 20 cm is enough for a short trip – and it's free.
- Book the trolley online: With Base and Better, booking it in advance is cheaper than handing it over at the gate – and it includes Priority Boarding.
- Pack within the exact dimensions: Better to have a suitcase that's exactly 55 × 40 × 20 cm than one that's cutting it close. Wheels and handles count towards the measurement.
- Choose a lightweight suitcase: Every kilo of empty weight eats into the 10 kg limit. Modern cabin suitcases often weigh under 2.5 kg.
- Checked baggage online: At the airport, it can quickly cost double. For two travellers, a shared checked suitcase often pays off.
