Sojourn 60 and 80: the wheeled backpack

The Osprey Sojourn 60 (71 × 44 × 35 cm, 3.7 kg) and the Osprey Sojourn 80 (75 × 47 × 36 cm, 4 kg) roll on a chassis with an aluminium frame designed to cope with uneven ground too. When the route calls for it, you simply pull out the AirScape back panel with its ventilated shoulder straps and carry the luggage like a backpack. The StraightJacket compression straps hold the contents together as long as the bag isn't fully packed. Inside, mesh and slip pockets keep things organised, while outside there's a back pocket with an ID window.

These models are designed for trips with checked luggage. Find out more about this category under wheeled backpacks, and discover suitable alternatives with backpack functionality under travel bags with backpack straps.

Sojourn Porter: the travel backpack with duffel-style opening

The Sojourn Porter opens wide, just like a travel bag.

The Sojourn Porter 30, the Porter 46 and the Porter 65 are travel backpacks without wheels. The main compartment opens wide, duffel-style, so you can pack with everything clearly visible. You can reach the laptop compartment from the outside, as well as the quick-access pocket for the liquids bag – handy at airport security. Two WingJacket straps compress the backpack when it's only partly filled. The Porter 65 also has a flexible, externally accessible shoe compartment.

You'll also find a selection of backpacks for travelling at travel backpacks.

Sojourn Shuttle: the wheeled travel bag for lots of luggage

The Osprey Sojourn Shuttle 100 (78 × 49 × 43 cm, 3.9 kg) and the Sojourn Shuttle 130 (92 × 53 × 43 cm, 4.2 kg) are duffel-style travel bags on an extra-wide chassis with 110 mm wheels and sealed bearings. The dirty-clothes compartment keeps shoes and worn clothing separate from the rest of the contents, while padded side walls and bumpers protect against knocks. The data sheet lists 108 and 140 litres respectively, while the model names state 100 and 130. You'll find similar bags under travel bags with wheels.

Carry-on: what's allowed, what isn't

Only the small Porter models qualify for the cabin. Osprey states that the Porter 30 and the Porter 46 meet the cabin baggage requirements of most airlines. For the Porter 46, the data sheet lists 55 × 35 × 23 cm (height × width × depth). That fits within the 55 × 40 × 23 cm allowance, but not within 55 × 40 × 20 cm. For the Porter 30, the data sheet lists a height of 44–51 cm with a depth of 27 cm – the depth exceeds 23 cm, so it's worth checking your airline's rules in this case.

The Sojourn 60 and 80, the Porter 65 and the Shuttle bags are too large for this and must be checked in. You'll find the current dimensions by airline in the article Carry-on dimensions by airline, suitable models under carry-on backpacks and carry-on. How checked luggage is defined is explained in What is checked luggage?.

How it differs from Farpoint, Fairview, Kestrel and Kyte

The Osprey Farpoint / Fairview travel backpack is, like the Porter, a backpack with a wide-opening main compartment, but it comes in men's and women's versions with different back lengths. If you want to compare the two, read the article Osprey Farpoint & Fairview backpacks. Osprey Kestrel / Kyte is designed for multi-day hiking trips – more on that in Travelling with Kestrel & Kyte. For everyday use and as a day pack at your destination, the Osprey Daylite models are a good fit. The brand's entire range can be found under Osprey range.
