Which Lässig backpack suits which child?

  • Petite or small children: Slim Unique. The narrow shape sits close to the back and barely protrudes to the sides.
  • Children who like order: Boxy Unique. The book compartment and box shape keep everything in its place.
  • Long school commutes or lighter children: Light Unique. Every gram saved on the backpack is more room for books and a water bottle.
  • For all three: Let your child try on the backpack with a bit of weight inside. It should end roughly at shoulder height at the top edge and not reach lower than the hips.

What's included in the Lässig school backpack set?

The Slim and Boxy come as a 7-piece set. Alongside the school backpack, this includes a gym bag, a pencil case, a utility pouch, a neck pouch, a rain cover, as well as tags and patches. With the patches, your child can personalise the backpack and change the design later on.

The Light set has 6 pieces and focuses on the backpack itself: according to the product description, it includes a removable hip and chest strap, a rain cover, as well as patches and stickers. Matching pencil cases are available separately.

For the first day of school: lunch boxes and water bottles are not included in the set. For everything else that belongs on the list, see our article Starting school: everything you need to know.

Lässig school backpack for secondary school

When moving up to secondary school, most children switch to a backpack. Lässig offers the School Origin Bold for this, with around 30 litres of volume. It has a height-adjustable back panel, a padded, breathable back section, a removable hip strap, a height-adjustable chest strap and reflectors on the front and sides. The reinforced base helps it stand stably.

Care: how to keep the backpack looking good for longer

According to the manufacturer, the Slim and Boxy are made from dirt- and water-repellent material, while the Light is impregnated. For everyday use, a damp cloth with a bit of mild soap is usually enough. Empty the backpack completely on a regular basis so no crumbs or spilled drinks are left in the corners. Frequently asked questions about Lässig school backpacks

What's the difference between Slim, Boxy and Light Unique?

All three have a volume of 21 litres and a base of 30 x 25 cm. The Slim is narrow-cut and sits close to the back, the Boxy has a fixed box shape with a book compartment and wet compartment, and the Light is the lightest model at around 960 g. The Slim and Boxy come as a 7-piece set, the Light as a 6-piece set.

Which Lässig school backpack is the lightest?

The Light Unique: according to the manufacturer, the backpack alone weighs around 960 g, and the complete set about 1.6 kg. The Slim Unique weighs around 1.1 kg, and the Boxy Unique around 1.17 kg.

What's included in the Lässig school backpack set?

The 7-piece set for the Slim and Boxy includes, alongside the school backpack, a gym bag, a pencil case, a utility pouch, a neck pouch, a rain cover, as well as tags and patches. According to the product description, the 6-piece Light set includes a removable hip and chest strap, a rain cover, as well as patches and stickers.

Does a Lässig school backpack grow with the child?

Yes. On the Slim and the Light, the back panel adjusts infinitely from XS to L, and the Light is, according to the manufacturer, designed for children up to about 152 cm tall. On the Boxy, the back section and carrying straps are height-adjustable.

How heavy can a packed school backpack be?

A good rule of thumb is: no more than about ten percent of body weight. A lighter backpack leaves more room for books, a lunch box and a water bottle. Pack heavy items close to the back and only bring what's needed for the day.

When does it make sense to switch from a school backpack to a bigger backpack?

Usually when moving up to secondary school. Books and exercise books get bigger, and a backpack with around 30 litres offers more space. Lässig offers the School Origin Bold for this, with a height-adjustable back panel.
